Which countries are open to vaccinated travellers?

Since early October, the traffic light system for travel has been scrapped and those who are fully vaccinated no longer need to quarantine (unless returning from a red list country) on arrival in the UK. But which other countries are open to vaccinated travellers? Here’s what you need to know.

Europe

Most of Europe is now open to travellers from the UK who are fully vaccinated, including Germany, Spain, Portugal, Greece, France, Cyprus and more. In fact, the only destinations currently not open to British travellers are Luxembourg (only for essential purposes) and Russia. 

North America

The USA will only allow fully vaccinated travellers to enter from Monday 8 November – until then entry is not permitted. However, fully vaccinated travellers are now able to enter Canada and Mexico without needing to quarantine. 

Caribbean and Central America

Honduras is closed to British travellers, while Anguilla, Bermuda and the Cayman Islands are all highly restricted – you will need to seek pre-approval for travel. However, the remaining countries are allowing vaccinated travellers to enter. 

South America

Argentina, Chile and Suriname have all closed their borders, while the remaining countries on the continent are open to travellers who are either fully vaccinated or can show proof of a negative Covid test before entering. 

Asia

The countries open to vaccinated travellers in Asia are: Bahrain, Bangladesh, Cambodia, Kyrgyzstan, Jordan, Lebanon, The Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, the UAEand Uzbekistan. Two islands in Thailand have also introduced special rules in order to allow vaccinated travellers to visit.  

Africa

Cape Verde, Chad, Comoros, Côte d’Ivoire, Djibouti, Egypt, Gabon, Ghana, Guinea, Liberia, Mali, Malawi, Mauritainia, Mauritius, Morocco, Mozambique, Namibia, Nigeria, Réunion, Rwanda, São Tomé and Príncipe, Senegal, Seychelles, South Africa, St Helena, Sudan, Tanzania, Tunisia, Uganda and Zambia all allow fully vaccinated tourists to enter. 

Australia and the South Pacific

New Zealand, Fiji, Kiribati, Pitcairn Islands and Tonga have all closed their borders to travellers, while Australia currently only allows Australian citizens and returning permanent residents and their immediate family members to enter. However, French Polynesia will allow fully vaccinated tourists to enter with a negative Covid test.
