German Esquire Showcases the Beauty of Syros in an Exclusive Feature

“Welcome to the most beautiful and undiscovered island in Greece!” With these opening words, the German publication Esquire.de introduces an exclusive feature on Syros, describing it as “a paradise-like beauty” in its headline.

The article continues: “Here, you won’t find mass tourism, concrete apartment blocks, or overcrowded beaches. Instead, you’ll discover pastel-colored villas, marble courtyards, wooden yachts moored in the harbor, and the turquoise waters of the Aegean Sea.”

It goes on to highlight Ano Syros and Ermoupoli, describing them as the island’s twin towns, perched atop two neighboring hills. Ano Syros, built by the Venetians in the 13th century, is said to transport visitors straight to medieval Italy with its narrow alleyways and historic charm. Ermoupoli, meanwhile, is praised for its magnificent Town Hall, which is open to the public. The town is described as ideal for leisurely strolls, celebrated for its elegant neoclassical architecture, and home to a wealth of excellent restaurants and bars.

The feature also draws attention to the cafés lining the waterfront promenade, noting that they offer stylish settings, high-quality food, and reasonable prices. On Syros, it says, this is not the exception—it is the norm.

The article adds that Syros is not solely dependent on tourism. The island’s economy is also supported by shipbuilding, agriculture, and the production of traditional sweets, for which it is renowned throughout the Mediterranean. According to the publication, this economic diversity contributes to affordable accommodation, peaceful beaches, and the island’s authentic atmosphere.

Finally, the feature recommends several beaches, including Galissas, described as the island’s most popular beach; Aetos, on the northwestern coast, highlighted as a peaceful and secluded spot; and Agios Nikolaos, located right in Ermoupoli for those who prefer to stay close to town. The latter is described as a stone bathing platform from which visitors can dive into the sea while enjoying views of the façades of the old town.
